News types: Operating Procedures

Published: 10 December 2025

In this episode of the Financial Reporting Council's 'In Conversation' podcast series, Kate O'Neill, Director of Stakeholder Engagement and Corporate Affairs, is joined by Anthony Barrett, Executive Director of Supervision, and Jamie Symington, Deputy Executive Counsel, to discuss the progress of the FRC's consultation on proposed amendments to the Audit Enforcement Procedure, which launched in October 2025 as part of its end-to-end review of its enforcement processes, and what we’ve heard so far from stakeholders.

Kate, Anthony and Jamie discuss the importance of stakeholder engagement to the consultation, how proportionality and continuous improvement are embedded into the proposals, and its critical alignment with other FRC initiatives, including the Future of Audit Supervision Strategy, which aims to evolve the FRC's supervisory approach to support an environment that promotes a resilient audit market and enables firms of all sizes to deliver high-quality while driving accountability and improvement.

To outline the consultation's aims, proposals and frequently asked questions, the FRC has produced a helpful explainer, which can be found on the FRC's website.

The consultation on proposed updates to the FRC's routes to resolution closes on 9 January 2026, and the FRC invites written feedback and comments emailed to [email protected] from across the stakeholder environment, including audit firms, professional bodies, law firms and users of audited financial statements.
