Sandbox: Simplifying Annual Reporting

1 minute read

Introduction

Navigating reporting frameworks to create a streamlined annual report which meets regulatory requirements but remains user-friendly can represent a significant challenge for preparers, particularly smaller companies with limited resources. To help companies address this challenge in a focused and supportive environment, the FRC launched the Simplifying Annual Reporting Sandbox in September 2025. Following the successful completion of the first round in April 2026 (read about the lessons learnt), we are pleased to open the sandbox to a second cohort.

Participation is entirely voluntary and confidential, with one-to-one interaction with FRC experts to identify key challenges and discuss potential solutions. Selected participants will be granted a 1-year exemption from routine Corporate Reporting Review selection.

How can I participate?

If you would like to participate in the second round of the sandbox and you meet the following criteria, please fill in the application form by Friday 3 July 2026. If you have any questions about the sandbox, please email [email protected].

To be eligible for the sandbox, the company must be:

  • Listed or have quoted equity shares
  • Not subject to financial services regulation or within another highly regulated sector (e.g. utilities)
  • Available to participate in one-to-one sandbox meetings over the course of July to November 2026, in respect of your last published set of annual report and accounts.
  • Able to commit to at least 3 x 90 minute meetings plus time for review exercises in between. The time commitment may vary depending on the company and their appetite.
  • Able to involve company resource at an appropriately senior level from within your finance, reporting and/or governance functions.

If demand for places exceeds capacity, the FRC will consider how to allocate available places. This may include giving priority to FTSE Small Cap constituents in this round of applications.
