The Accounting Standards Board, in conjunction with other European standard-setters and EFRAG, published a Discussion Paper ‘The Financial Reporting of Pensions’ in January 2008. It was intended as a contribution to a fundamental review of current pension accounting standards at the international level. Details of the paper may be obtained from www.frc.org.uk/asb/technical/projects/project0065.html.
The ASB hosted a public meeting to provide an opportunity to discuss the paper’s proposals and to express views which may influence future developments. The meeting focused on the financial reporting by the employer.
Presentations were made by:
- Tony Sykes (Partner, KPMG)
- Gary Hibbard (Head of Global Pensions and Benefits, BP plc)
- Joanne Segars (Chief Executive, National Association of Pension Funds)
- Crispin Southgate (Director, Institutional Investment Advisors)
Ian Mackintosh, Chairman of the Accounting Standards Board, chaired the meeting.
There was ample opportunity for participants to share their experiences and comments and to ask questions of the speakers.
