Board Members

Chairman
Richard Fleck * Richard Fleck qualified as a solicitor with Herbert Smith in 1973 and became a partner in 1980. He specialises in corporate and regulatory law and in matters affecting the accountancy profession. He is presently his firm's worldwide practice partner. He has been involved in audit standard setting since 1986, initially as a member of the Auditing Practices Committee, and subsequently as a founder member of the former Auditing Practices Board.

Andrew Chambers * Andrew Chambers is director of Management Audit LLP who specialize in advising on corporate governance and audit matters. He is an author of several books and until the end of 2005 served on the Corporate Governance Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a Council member of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations. He chairs the Corporate Governance and Risk Management Committee of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Jon Grant * Jon Grant is Technical Director of the APB. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 and was made a partner in Price Waterhouse (now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers) in 1984 where his positions included World Director of Audit Research and Technology. He was appointed as the former Auditing Practices Board's first Technical Director in 1996.
Lew Hughes * Lew Hughes is a member of CIPFA and has spent much of his career in public sector audit initially with the Exchequer and Audit Department and subsequently with National Audit Office. In 1987 he was appointed Director of Audit at the NAO, and was subsequently an Assistant Auditor General. He was awarded the CB in 1996 and is presently the Deputy Auditor General for Wales. He was a founder member of the former Auditing Practices Board, and since 1997 chaired the APB Public Sector Sub-committee.
Paul Lee * Paul Lee is a Director at Hermes Investment Management Ltd in London. He heads the stewardship teams for the UK and Asia as part of Hermes' Equity Ownership Service. Paul is a member of the QCA's Corporate Governance Committee and is a participant in both the Corporate Reporting Users' Forum and the Audit Quality Forum.
Keith Nicholson * Keith Nicholson qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1974 and became a partner in KPMG in 1986. He is currently the senior insurance partner in the firm's Financial Sector Group, having spent many years specialising in clients in the insurance and retail banking sector. He is a former member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales's Insurance sub-committee. He is a co-author of a research study for the former Accounting Standards Committee on 'Added Value in External Financial Reporting'.
Ronan Nolan * Ronan Nolan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1977, and became a partner in the Dublin office of Deloitte & Touche in 1983. For a number of years he held overall responsibility for the firm’s audit services in Ireland. He is currently a member of the firm’s executive committee, acts as the firm’s audit technical partner, and heads up the Deloitte Ireland Funds Sector practice. He serves on the firm’s European Funds Steering Group. Ronan is also actively involved in the work of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, including that of the Auditing Standards Committee, and was co-opted onto the Council during 2004.
Graham Pimlott * Graham Pimlott qualified as a solicitor in 1976 with Lovell White Durrant becoming a partner in 1981. He also spent 2 years as Secretary of the Takeover Panel. In 1986 he joined Kleinwort Benson's Corporate Finance department, subsequently moving to BZW as head of Corporate Finance. Until 1999 he was in various senior positions at BZW and Barclays Bank plc, including membership of the Group Executive Committee. Since then he has held a number of non-executive directorships including Tesco plc. He has recently been appointed a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel.
Minnow Powell * Minnow Powell qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979 and became a partner in Touche Ross (now Deloitte & Touche) in 1985. Since that time, he has specialised in audit within the property and media sectors. He is a member of Deloitte's international group responsible for the firm's audit methodology.
Will Rainey * Will Rainey qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and became a partner in Ernst & Young during 1986. In addition to client responsibilities, he has held a number of management positions including Head of Audit for Ernst & Young's Industrial & Commercial office in London (everything apart from Financial Services) from 1995 to 2000 and from 1986 to 1991 he was National Head of Training which included the implementation of the firm's new audit methodology following the merger of Ernst & Whinney and Arthur Young in 1989. He is also a member of Ernst & Young's Professional Standards Panel, which is responsible for determining the firm's stance on particular audit and accounting issues. As part of this role, he is Independent Review Partner to approximately ten listed audit clients.
David Thomas * David Thomas qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978. In 1987 he became a partner in Ernst & Young, where he assumed responsibility for Information Systems Audit. Other management positions have included Head of Services to the Internal Audit Sector and a group operating partner. He was involved with developing the Ernst & Young audit methodology and manual and, as a member of the international audit automation team, was responsible for the development of audit methodology support tools. In 2002 he was appointed Group Controller of Invensys plc.
Tom Troubridge * Tom Troubridge is head of the London Capital Markets Group of the PricewaterhouseCoopers UK firm. He is responsible for the team of specialists who carry out due diligence and other work on IPOs and other capital market transactions involving compliance with the UK Listing Rules. These include both domestic and cross border deals in the equity and debt markets. Tom has been involved in capital market transactions for many years and has led many large IPOs. Tom is also familiar with continuing obligations and corporate governance requirements for listed companies. Tom chairs the Listing Authority Advisory Committee (LAAC) of the UK Listing Authority (division of the Financial Services Authority) which is the committee which oversees the UK Listing Rules.
Stuart Turley * Stuart Turley qualified in 1978 as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Young McCelland Moores (now part of Ernst & Young) in Manchester. Since 1994 he has been the KPMG Professor of Accounting at the University of Manchester and until September 2001 was also the Head of the Manchester School of Accounting and Finance. For 2 years from 1985 he was seconded by the University of Manchester to be Secretary of the Research Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He has held visiting appointments in Australia, Denmark and Sweden and has published research into the fields of audit expectations, audit methodology, accounting regulation and international standards.
Martin Ward * Martin Ward is partner in charge of audit and corporate finance services at ten partner firm, Dodd & Co, Carlisle. He specializes in advising a wide variety of independent businesses, and provides general business and financial advice. He has extensive experience in advising and working with smaller entities and audits. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and sits on their Audit Registration Committee.
