Many of the FRC’s activities are undertaken in order to foster investment. We promote high standards of corporate governance and set standards for financial and other reporting, auditing and actuarial practice. Our aim in doing so is to give investors confidence in the information presented by companies and the willingness and ability of the boards of those companies to act in the interest of their shareholders.
The FRC believes that while the primary responsibility for effective stewardship of companies rests with the board, investors in the company also play an important role in holding the board to account.
For investors, stewardship activities include monitoring and engaging with companies on matters such as strategy, financial performance, risk, remuneration and corporate governance, as well as voting. The
UK Stewardship Code describes these activities, and investors are encouraged to report on how they have applied the Code (on a “comply or explain” basis).
